Dear Falcon Families,

We are off to a great start this week and looking forward to the full week next week. Last Monday our teachers had the opportunity to attend some wonderful professional learning sessions during the Institute Day and we were able to share and reflect on our learning during the student late arrival on Wednesday. I hope you and your family enjoyed the long weekend. The Thomas kids loved playing in the snow Saturday! However, the temperatures over the past couple days have kept us inside more than usual. Please double check with your children to ensure they have all of the necessary winter gear ready for school. Currently, there are an incredible amount of coats, hats, gloves and other cold weather items in the Lost & Found.

National PTA’s Reflections Program I would like to congratulate the following Field students whose artwork is advancing to compete at the state level: Emma Barron, Dylan Bennett, Alexandra ElEtr-Garofalo, Luke McCarthy and Moxey Wehrle. Join us in celebrating the wonderful work of these talented students at the Elmhurst Reflections Exhibit at Judith B Salon (263 N. York). The Opening Celebration will be on Friday, February 22 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. Entries will be on display throughout the public space, musicians will play their pieces, and dance and film videos will be on the big screen. If you cannot attend the opening celebration, you can still visit through March 30 during normal business hours. Please contact Michelle Wehrle at michellewehrl@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

We can't do it without you!

United Community Concerns Association Food Drive – I would like to share a recent letter from Shari Haug, Food Drive Director of the UCCA:

United Community Concerns Association would like to extend our sincere gratitude for your continued support and interest in our program. Thank you for continuing to participate in our annual Food Drive. Your food donations will be used for Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 families who are experiencing difficult times. UCCA could not accomplish what we do without your support. Your generosity will help many as we work together to fight hunger in our own community.

This year during our Holiday Food Drive we were able to pack and deliver over 1,100 boxes of food and paper products weighing over 11.5 tons to over 275 families. In addition, we were able to provide them with food gift cards to be used towards the purchase of fresh meat and produce. These families also receive food gift cards at Thanksgiving and Easter. In Addition, we provide an opportunity for the families to shop at a Mobile Food Pantry in May, July and September. We also provide food gift cards to 85 Elmhurst senior citizens three times throughout the year.

Please accept our sincere thank you from the Officers and Directors of the United Community Concerns Association.

REACH Identification for 2019-20 Families of students in second and fifth grades who are identified to start REACH in the 2019-20 school year (in third and sixth grades) will receive notification letters via SchoolMessenger on February 1. REACH identification notices will be sent only to families who have students that have been identified for REACH programming on February 1. Application for REACH Appeal is currently live and will close after February 15, 2019. Appeal is open for students currently in grades 3-7. Appeal testing will take place the week of March 4.

5Essentials Survey – We currently have response information from only 11 percent of our parent group and need at least 20 percent of parents to respond in order for this to be reported on Field’s State Report Card. The statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey is still open for parents to share their thoughts about the experiences with our school. This survey provides critical input to help develop school improvement plans. The survey takes about 10 minutes. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child. If you completed this survey at Field during conferences at the kiosk, you do not need to complete it again. To take the parent survey please click here and select the parent survey link. You will need to enter the county (DuPage) and school name (Field). A link is also provided on the Elmhurst District 205 website. I hope you will participate.

Poster Contest Winners!

A student at Field School was the Grand Prize Winner for the Annual Elmhurst “Learn Not to Burn” Poster Contest for 2016. The contest is part of the Fire Safety Program presented to all fourth grade students in District 205 as well as private schools in Elmhurst. Students work on their poster designs under the guidance of their art teachers. The theme of the winning poster was "Practice Your Escape Route". This winning poster was published and distributed throughout Elmhurst before Fire Prevention Week in October. It's an honor that a Field School student's creativity and hard work created such an important message about fire safety. Congratulations!
